Grief Encounter is delighted to announce that Lucy and Sian Okrent have been appointed as Honorary Patrons in recognition of their exceptional efforts in raising more than £250,000 for Grief Encounter, alongside developing unique grief programmes as part of the Stephen Okrent Shared Grief Foundation x Grief Encounter. They were awarded their Patronage at the Grief Encounter Summer Staff Conference on the 4th July, by the Founder and CEO of the organisation.
Lucy and Sian experienced the death of their brother, Stephen as a result of Covid-19 in March 2020. Their dedication, tireless fundraising, and unwavering commitment to supporting bereaved children and their families, after experiencing their own grief, has made a profound impact on Grief Encounter, supporting our mission that no child grieves alone.
Lucy has been a true champion for Grief Encounter, embodying the spirit of compassion, empathy, and resilience in her quest to make a difference in the lives of those affected by grief. Recently taking on a Triathlon to raise vital funds, in memory of her brother and Father, she not only raised over £25,000, but also increased awareness about the importance of grief support.
The sister’s outstanding achievement of surpassing £250,000 demonstrates the incredible impact that individuals can have when they devote themselves to a cause. The funds raised are enabling Grief Encounter to expand our services, develop innovative programs such as our specialist Sleep Programmes and Teen Journals, and reach even more bereaved children and families in need of support.
We are immensely grateful for the Okrent’s ongoing commitment to Grief Encounter. In their role as Honorary Patrons, they will continue to be ambassadors for Grief Encounter, furthering our mission to provide support to those experiencing grief.
“On behalf of Grief Encounter, I extend my deepest gratitude to Lucy, Sian, Sami and the entire Okrent family and Shared Grief Foundation, for their extraordinary fundraising achievements and her dedication to our cause. Their unwavering support and commitment are deeply appreciated, and we are honoured to have them join us formally as Honorary Patrons.” Lou Scott, Director of Fundraising.
